Happy Birthday Yoga Shala Idaho

On Saturday May 31st the Yoga Shala will turn 1.  Time flies when you’re having fun.  We would like to thank all of you that have been with us through our first year - from the beginning or joined us some where along the line.  It has been our honor to provide the Treasure Valley with our brand of Yoga.  We look forward to the next year as we look to continue to offer everyone our eclectic brand of Yoga.  Thank you all.

May Schedule:

The Shala will keep the same schedule through the month of May.  Check the web for the latest schedule.  Also there will be white schedules (with cute fairies and May flowers on them) available at the Shala.

The Intro to Yoga class will change from a free class to a donation based class starting May 3rd.  This will be charged on a sliding scale from $0 - $12 pay as you wish.  If you would like we can also take this off of your current class card.  The reason behind this is that we have heard from several people that this is the only time in the week that they can come to Yoga class but they feel funny about not paying.  So with that barrier removed feel free to come and enjoy the “Community Class”.  Place your donation in the bowl on the sign-in desk.  50% of all donations will be given to local Boise charities.  This month’s offerings will be donated to the Boise Rescue Mission.  Come and enjoy Community Yoga - 11:00am on all but the 3rd Saturday of every month.

The 10 days of Yoga for $10 offer known as 10/10 will be ending on Wednesday April 30th.  If you have any friends, loved ones or co-workers that would like to try Yoga but have not yet.  This would be a good time to have them come in and take of advantage of 10/10 while it lasts.

May Events:

April 30th Introduction to Ashtanga

For the next five weeks our very talented Ashtanga instructor Kimberly will be going into the basics of the Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga practice.  Ashtanga yoga was created by K. Pattabhi Jois and brought to the west by Doug Swenson  As many students have said to do this class one needs to have their A game.  Kimberly will be braking down the practice of the Ashtanga Yoga. so someone new to yoga can enjoy and learn as well as more seasoned students can grow in their understanding of this practice and Yoga as a whole.  With Kimberly’s experience as a Forest Yoga instructor she brings not only years of experience as a yoga practitioner but the knowledge of one of western yoga’s greatest teachers (Anna Forest).  Kimberly has taken aspects of Forest along with Anusara (yoga with heavy emphasis on alignments) and blended it into the traditional Ashtanga practice that gives the student a firm footing in both eastern tradition and innovative western yoga.   Many if not all of the current teachers on staff at the Shala have practiced this traditional form of Yoga and have gained a better understanding and appreciation of the art of yoga through their practice of Ashtanga yoga..  The Introduction of Ashtanga series begins this week April 30th and will go through May 28th.  You can use your regular class cards to attend this informative class.  The series will be helpful if attended in full but is designed also to be taken one module at a time.  Come join us all this will be a very informative class taught by one of the Treasure Valley’s up and coming Yoga instructors.

May 17th Shala 101 Alignment Workshop #2

The fifth edition of Shala 101 will be going into the second half of our alignment series based on the 30 essential yoga postures.  Jenny will be leading the class through 10 – 15 postures with emphasis on understanding the basics of the pose and what we are looking to accomplish in the posture.  Jenny is one of the Treasure Valley’s foremost Yoga teachers with a practice of over 12 years.  Strong in Ashtanga, Power and Anusara roots.  Join us for this very informative workshop to help deepen your practice.

Changes to the Shala website

Blog/Comments page added to the website.

Check our spot on the web http://www.yogashalaid.com for our new blog/comments page.  Starting this week we will be adding a comments/blog page to the Yoga Shala Idaho web site.  The intention of this page is to allow all to participate with Yoga based or life affirming, positive commentary on our Yoga practice and how it has affected each of us within and without the “Big Yellow Room”.  Or to comment on another fellow seeker insights that have been left on the page.  As many of you know all of us here at the Shala are looking to not only share our love of the Yoga tradition but to build a community were all our accepted and cared fore,  a community where all people can come and share their lives with each of us.  The thought here is to bring the feeling that all have after a vigorous asana practice (postures) and come to the tea area and discuss this with all that have shared in the experience.  We are looking for comments on life affirming ventures with in and outside of our walls, experiences of yoga, poetry, books we have read, music the goodness that is this life.  Community is what we are about and hopefully adding this will allow us to share this feeling with the rest of the world (as in World Wide Web).  We are looking for the positive here.  Please help us create not only a great place to practice Yoga but also share with all the goodness that is life here in the Treasure Valley.

Summer Solstice celebration June 20th:

Continuing our tradition of celebrating the changing of the seasons the Yoga Shala will be celebrating the Summer Solstice on June 20th at 6:00pm.  For those that attended our Spring Equinoxes event it was very inspirational as we brought in some djembe drums to go along with our practice of 54 Sun Salutations A and 54 Oms.  At the Shala we are looking to expand on this experience.  Stay tuned for more news on this very unique and up lifting experience.

In closing I would again like to thank you all for your continued support in our experiment in yoga community.  We will see you all in the Shala soon.  By all means get out there and enjoy your spring time this is truly one of the great time of the year and the true beauty of our part of the world.
